If you're into the dungeon crawler style of games then I'd definitly recommend it. PROS+Good selection of party members, each feeling fairly unique+Game felt polished the whole way through with no glitches+No weird difficulty spikes for the sake of having an "insane" last boss. CONS-Character level ups have no customization, and minimal descriptions EXAMPLE: When my warrior gained a level it just said POWER HIT. I hovered the mouse over it and no explanation is given. While fighting I would randomly see the words POWER HIT appear so you figure out what it does. -The automapping is ok...you oneed to face a wall to make it appear. This leaves your map with a bunch of liitle gaps, and makes you feel like you need to strafe along the walls to make sure it all gets drawn and you're not lost later-The secrets are BRUTALLY hard to see later in the game. Its mostly the stone block of a wall thats pushed out a bit. -Game is very short. Took me 5.0 hours exactly to finish it. However I am really not sick of it at all. I would start a new game with a new party right away if I didn't have a massive backlog of everything else to play. All in all this is quite a bit of fun to play. $5 for it on sale is a good price.. Heroes of the Monkey Tavern is a very very good game in its genre. I actually didn't like the 90's games of this type that much. Somehow this game breaks a bit loose of the things I disliked about those older games.For this price, the game is quite good. I miss a little bit more tactics in the fights, but you can get that in another game like this that costs 10 credits more.This game actually has something simplistic yet very fun in it. The graphics are VERY nice, even whilst being repetitive (typical of this genre). Here and there, there are some funny jokes, and there is one level (haven't finished yet) that really creeps you out.. It's a simplified version of your standard 1st person dungeon crawler. It has a few puzzles, simplified combat, no hunger / ammo / kiting. I'd say if you can get it on sale, it's good for a couple hours, though I don't know if it would be too good for multiple playthroughs. Oh, and just dump everything into dexterity.. Fair little game, short sweet and too the point, play it with different combos its got a mild replay value. nothing is procedural so it is the same game every time but still its fun for the price i recommend it.. The ergonomy of this game is terrible. I'm a huge fan of the grid-based dungeon crawler genre but Heroes of the Monkey Tavern has big issues:- keyboard controls aren't queued. This is a very typical subtle control issue: if I press "turn left" twice, the second input is discarded because the animation of the 1st action is still ongoing. This makes the most basic action (moving around) feel absolutely terrible. If you play Legend of Grimrock for 5 minutes you'll notice the difference immediately.- the whole game UI is crippled with tons of subtle issues like this one, and in the end, the game feels like it was made without any kind of attention for the core gameplay interactions: move around, attack, pick items, manage inventory. Everything feels clumsy as hell.- no drag & drop for item picking? Seriously?- no control binding. Seriously, it's 2018. QWERTY controls just don't work for ALL countries.- 2D art is "meh" at best, character faces during the intro are... x_x. Looks like most of the art was created by someone who can barely draw. May sound rude, but it is the way it feels.. On a scale of 1-10 I give a "meh"... Its no Grimrock II, but its better than Coldfire Keep and other clones. If you like dungeon crawlers... you ll have fun :). Surprisingly confusing dungeon crawler. with very few of the types of options youd expect in a PC release. Seems like it has a lot of potential and nice graphics (very nice though repetivie dungeons and well animated enemeis - haven't I seen that rat guy before in other games???In the end I cant recommend an $8 game with such little polish. This game feels like an asset flip of Legend of Grimrock. it feels and plays like a bootleg version of it. the monster and attack sounds are copied. mechanics are copied and watered down. the style of the maps and everything is just a trash tier copy of legend of grimrock. just play legend of grimrock instead of this.. Very low-budget dungeon RPG. Don't worth it. Stay with Legend of Grimrock 1/2 and their mods. Even the classics Eye of the Beholder/Dungeon Master/Bloodwych are much better than this.
